Things
Star
A star marks a thing as worth finding again.
Why you'd care
Some things matter long after the day you wrote them: a quote, an idea, a password hint, an address. A star pulls them out of the stream so you do not have to remember which day they were on.
Starring
Any of these stars a thing, and doing it again unstars it:
- Tap or long-press the thing's type icon, the dash or checkbox at the start of the line, and pick Star. On a to-do, a tap checks it off, so long-press instead.
- Use Star in the edit bar or the selection bar.
- Press ⌘⇧S while you are on the thing.
Starred things collect in the Stars view. See To-dos, Stars and Bookmarks.
Going further
A star is not a priority system. There are no levels. It is a single mark meaning "I want to find this again".
It is independent of completing. A starred to-do can be completed or canceled and stays starred. See complete and cancel.
Stars are for things, bookmarks are for lists. They are separate collections, and neither includes the other. See bookmarks.
A list can keep its stars to itself. Turn off Show in Stars in a list's settings and its starred things stay out of the Stars view. See locking a list.
Starred things are always kept offline on your phone, so they are there with no signal. See writing when you are offline.
Tips
- If Stars has hundreds of entries, it has stopped being a signal. Unstar in batches from the Stars view.
- Star the thing you will want next month, not the one that feels important today.
