Custom links for lists

A public list can have a link that reads like words instead of a long id. Plus

Why you'd care

Every public list already has a link, but it looks like twosapp.com/64f0a1b2c3d4e5f6a7b8c9d0. Nobody can read that out loud, type it from memory or tell what it is before they tap it.

A custom link looks like twosapp.com/user/parker/reading-list. It says whose list it is and what is in it.

The 60-second version

Make the list public, then open its settings and set Custom link. Type a few words, wait for Available, and save. Every share link for that list now uses the new address.

Where to do it

Open the list, open the ... menu in its header, then List settings. The Custom link row sits right under Public.

The row only shows up once the list is public. A custom link on a private list would lead nowhere, so there is no point setting one.

What you can type

  • Letters, numbers and dashes. Spaces turn into dashes as you type, and capitals become lowercase.
  • At least 2 characters, at most 60.
  • Not only numbers, so it can never be mistaken for a list id.

Each link has to be different from the ones on your other lists. It does not have to be different from anyone else's, because yours live under your username. Two people can both have a reading-list.

How it works with your username

The link includes your username, so you need one. Older accounts that signed up with only an email address are asked to set a username first, which keeps your email out of any link you share. See your profile.

Changing your username does not break your links. Twos remembers your old username, so links you already sent keep working. Nobody else can take your old username while it is still pointing at your lists.

Change it whenever you like. The old link keeps working and quietly leads to the same list, so nothing you already sent goes dead.

Remove it from the same row. The list goes back to sharing its regular link. The list itself stays public until you turn Public off.

Make the list private and the custom link stops showing the list, exactly like the regular link does. Make it public again and the custom link works again.

Going further

Both forms work. twosapp.com/user/parker/reading-list and twosapp.com/@parker/reading-list open the same list. Twos shares the first one because some messaging apps refuse to show a preview for links containing @.

Previews look the same. A custom link shows the same title, description and image as the regular link when you paste it into a message.

It opens in the app. Tapping a custom link on a phone with Twos installed opens the list in the app, the same as any other list link. The desktop app handles it too.

If Plus ends, your links keep working. You can still copy or remove a link you already set. Setting a new one needs Plus again.

Collaborators share the regular link. Only the owner can set a custom link, and only the owner's share sheet uses it.

Tips

  • Short beats clever. packing-list is easier to type than my-ultimate-summer-packing-list-2026.
  • Name it for what is in it, not for when you made it, so the link still fits after you update the list.
  • Pair it with publishing to your profile if you want people to find the list without being sent the link.
