Google Keep

Google Keep imports from a Google Takeout export.

Before you start

Request a Takeout export with only Keep selected. It arrives as a .zip. Import the whole .zip in Settings Integrations Google Keep.

Takeout can take a while to prepare on Google's side, which is usually the slowest part.

What comes across

  • Checklists become their own lists. Each item is a to-do, and checked items come across completed.
  • Notes become things in one list called Google Keep. The title (or the first line) is the thing, and the rest of the note is its note.
  • Labels become tags. Pinned notes come across starred.
  • Images are attached, when you import the .zip.
  • Archived notes go into a separate Google Keep archive list, so you can leave them out in the preview.

Tips

  • If you have more checklists than one import can hold as lists, the extra ones come across as single things in the Google Keep list, with their items in the note, so nothing is dropped.
  • Keep notes are small, so a thing with a note is usually the right home. If a note is really a list, turn it into one after importing.
